Seed Production

Commercial vegetable seed production — hybrid tomatoes, hybrid bitter gourd, beans, mustard greens, radish, and all major local vegetable seeds.

  • Contract seed production coordinated with community farmer groups across multiple agro-climatic zones
  • Isolation distance, roguing, and field standards maintained to certified seed protocol
  • Post-harvest processing: cleaning, drying, grading, and germination testing before packaging
  • Season-wide planning so growers always have the next crop's seed ready in time

Breeding Research

Research on plant breeding and quality seed production, developing diverse lines of tomato, bitter gourd, and Brassica varieties.

  • Hand emasculation and controlled pollination to develop new hybrid tomato and bitter gourd lines
  • Screening local germplasm for disease tolerance, yield, and climatic adaptability
  • Multi-location trials before a line is released for community production
  • Work carried out under the technical supervision of NARC and SQCC

Trainings

Training farmers for community based vegetable seed production across Nepal's climatic zones, and in Integrated Pest Management for fresh vegetable production.

  • Hands-on field schools covering nursery raising, transplanting, and trellising
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) training to reduce chemical dependency
  • Seed selection, roguing, and post-harvest handling workshops for grower groups
  • Ongoing technical backstopping through the growing season, not a one-off visit

Internship and Work Experience Program (WEP) for agriculture students at our production and research station.
