Founded in 2015, Sarba Shrestha Seeds is an emerging seed company working to build a healthy, community-rooted vegetable seed business in Nepal.
Our Story
Founded in 2015, Sarba Shrestha Seeds began with a simple belief: Nepal should not always have to look beyond its borders for quality seeds. With the motto “Seeds for Nepal, Seeds from Nepal,” we set out to develop varieties rooted in our own diverse germplasm and adapted to Nepal’s unique growing conditions.
What started as a small, youth-led initiative has grown into a research-driven seed company working across plant breeding, variety development, seed production, and commercialization. Over the years, we have continued to invest in research, people, infrastructure, and the patient work of developing our own vegetable varieties.
Our journey has never been about quick growth. It is about building something that lasts—stronger seeds, stronger farmers, and a more self-reliant seed sector for Nepal.
There is an urge in Nepalese agriculture to minimise the risks of losing our best local germplasm — and to make Nepal a seed exporter rather than an importer.

Company founded
Sarba Shrestha Seeds Pvt. Ltd. is established by a small group of enthusiastic young agriculturists with the motto 'Seeds for Nepal, Seeds from Nepal'.
2016–2018
Breeding programme begins
R&D starts on hybrid tomato and bitter gourd lines, exploiting local germplasm alongside technology transfer from international partners.
2019
Srijana tomato hybrid production
Commercial seed production of the Srijana tomato hybrid begins under the technical supervision of NARC and the Seed Quality Control Centre (SQCC).
Ongoing
OP seed production
seed production of local open-pollinated varieties — bitter gourd, beans, mustard greens, radish, and coriander — expands across partner farmer groups.
